Niners to retire Young's jersey

"It's a tremendous honor, there's no question about it," Young said in a phone interview. "For all the things we've enjoyed, and all the accolades, this might be the best thing of all."
The ceremony will take place during the 49ers' home game against the Patriots on October 5th.

Shawntae Spencer out for season

The 49ers on Tuesday announced that cornerback Shawntae Spencer had been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee and will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Spencer suffered the injury in Week 2 against Seattle.
